Free navigon freshmaps 2014 download software at UpdateStar - NAVIGON Fresh is a free program which allows you to update your NAVIGON at your convenience, or buy. Navigon portable GPS navigators run on a powerful Samsung 400 MHz processor, a fully integrated SiRF Star III GPS chip, 64 MBs of both RAM and ROM built in, and a rechargeable 1,200 mAh lithium ion battery that is rated for 4.5 hours of continuous use. All this is housed in an ultra-thin, sleek housing.
Bought my first GPS today after months of lurking. It was an impulse buy, I was in favour of a Garmin 765T with the knowledge that Navigon has abandoned North America. I got the 2120 Max and a 12 updates Freshmaps card.
I have a few questions in need of answers:
1. Can I activate my Freshmaps card at a later date but must I activate it upon purchase? How often are maps updated? Would I have to choose and skip a few updates in order to get the most bang for my 3 years subscription.
2. What is the most recent maps and software for this model. Using the Navigon Fresh, it states that my software version (v1) is the latest, but I have seen mention of V1.2 here.
3. When I initiate a navigation, if the device doesn't get a signal. It just sits there like a brick. There is no chance of cancelling or do something else with the menu. Is this common. Is there a reset (I have just downloaded the manual but haven't read it...)
Thanks in advance.

- When I bought my 2120max it had version 6.5.0. After loading the latest software from NavigonFresh I have v.7.3.2. I'm not sure why you have v1.
Answering your questions:
1. You can activate Freshmaps when you wish, but until you download the latest maps you will be driving with at least 1 year old maps. It is up to you.
2. The most recent, as far as I know, is Q2 2009 maps and 7.3.2 software. This what I got from NavigonFresh. But there are some issues with them. PGS crashes when you try to select any address with more than one choice: West, East... This is one of them: ON, North York, Steels Ave, 5385.
I have more issues after downloading the latest version, see 2120max issue with ver 7.3.2, but it could be just my device.
3. This is normal. You have to wait until it gets signal.
Cheers. - Thanks 2120 user,
My bad, my software is actually v6.5.2 build 40 (03/10/2008)
That's March 2008, I assume. Old indeed!
Will keep this map/software for a while at least until the issues with Q2 2009 maps and 7.3.2 software is solved, pretty much every street here has a N, S, E, W variation! I wonder if one can download say a Q1 2009, when Q2 is available.
I didn't think it was possible, and glad to find out I can save routes and do multiple way points, eventhough it doesn't reorder waypoints, which can be good or undesirable. I don't believe that is possible with Navigon Navigator on iPhone. - More questions after briefly reading the manual:
1. The manual mentions clock and screensaver in 'general settings'. I can only find 'basic settings' and no clock nor screensaver... are these 2100Max specific? My downloaded manual is 'Manual_2100max_2120max_English_Rev2_1'
2. There is also supposed to be a setting to automatically trigger 'Day/night' mode, I don't seem to be able to find that either... starting to sound like a wrong manual or wrong software version. - You can set both by selecting: Options->General->Display Mode( page 1) and Screensaver( page 3)
Which is what the manual says:You can set both by selecting: Options->General->Display Mode( page 1) and Screensaver( page 3)
From my main screen, if I choose 'Options', I have 8 buttons:
Route Planning
Direct Help
Traffic
GPS Status
Service Activation
Settings
Logbook
Product Information
When I click on 'Settings', I get 4 choices:
Basic Settings
Current Map
POI
Route Profile
When I click on 'Basic Settings', I get 7 pages of choices (26 in total). Display Mode and Screensaver (same with anything with clock) are not there... From here, I only get a option to 'Cancel' or 'Done'
Looks like time to upgrade the software/map... even though Q2 2009 maps are buggy- I just realized that you have v 6.5.xx not 7xx. I think you downloaded wrong manual. There are two options on navigon Website:
NAVIGON 2100 max (For FreshMaps Customers)
If you have downloaded your FreshMaps on or after October 31, 2008, please use these:
* User's Manual Navigon 2100/2120 max MN7 English (US & Canada)
* User's Manual Navigon 2100/2120 max MN7 Espanol
* User's Manual Navigon 2100/2120 max MN7 Francais
NAVIGON 2100 max
* User's Manual Navigon 2100/2120 max English (US & Canada)
* User's Manual Navigon 2100/2120 max Espanol
* User's Manual Navigon 2100/2120 max Francais
you should select, I think, the second one.
Cheers.
That looks more like it. I am probably going to activate my freshmaps and download the new software later... Thanks* User's Manual Navigon 2100/2120 max English (US & Canada)- When you download the latest version please let me know if you have the same issues with 2120max as I do. It will help me to decide what to do with my device: send to for repair Navigon or wait for the next version.
Cheers.
Will do. Since others are also reporting similar behaviour, I doubt it is your device but one never really knows. Will do so when I get a moment. Since I am on a Mac and switching to PC mode can be a pain. When you download the latest version please let me know if you have the same issues with 2120max as I do. It will help me to decide what to do with my device: send to for repair Navigon or wait for the next version.
Cheers.
Decided to give the Navigon away as a gift to my mother-in-law. She is giving us her old car!
It crashes! Tested with ON, North York, Steels Ave, 5385. You are not alone :(When you download the latest version please let me know if you have the same issues with 2120max as I do. It will help me to decide what to do with my device: send to for repair Navigon or wait for the next version.
Cheers.
Can I use older maps with this software version I wonder- Sorry to hear that.
With v 6xx you have one big MAP file ( US + Canada ). With v 7xx you have seperate files for each state and province. You have to use proper software version with proper maps.
One question, when you reset your device did you manage to use saved destinations or did you get the message 'cannot load destination'?
Cheers - 'The destination cannot be loaded!'
Wow, looks like I won't be able to give this away tomorrow! (to a complete technophobe). I am restoring back to v6. v7 is as good as a brick at this stage! - You wil have the same message every time you connect GPS to your computer. You will loose all your destinations.
This version sucks big time. I do not understant how Navigon could released such buggy software. - Are you actually using it or an earlier map? This one is unusable. I thought manually typing the NSEW designation would avoid the crash, but the software doesn't let me.
I am contemplating returning the GPS... 2 hours after I have activated my Freshmaps! - I have no choice. I cannot return it. Also, in my area so many roads changed that I need new maps. I just hope that Navigon will fix all the bugs soon and deliver fully functioning software.
Unless you have an iphone I wouldn't hold my breath on that. At this point, I wouldn't hold my breath with anything Navigon related in North America. People are having to get the Q3 2009 maps off of the iphone applications since they still haven't put out that update yet for anything else. I think once I get my Navigon gps working again (my own dumb fault) I'm going to sell it on ebay and get something from Garmin or TomTom. It's a shame too because I really like my Navigon 2000s and the features it has. But, without reliable customer service, updates and software, what good are their products at this point? Unless I plan on moving to Europe, I just don't see the point in sticking with them in North America.I have no choice. I cannot return it. Also, in my area so many roads changed that I need new maps. I just hope that Navigon will fix all the bugs soon and deliver fully functioning software.- I tried to use Navigon Q3 Maps from iPhone, and got the same crash! It is obviously software version related.
I have contacted Navigon support but haven't heard from them.
I am going to cut loses, and return the hardware today. As for the freshmaps subscription card I have activated just to put in the bad software, I am going to see if I can get it transfer to somebody who might be able to use it. It is likely not refundable.
I usually like European products for quality. I am burnt this time! - GPS returned. A '11-updates left' freshmaps subscription card is now useless. I might see if they can turned off my activation. (Unlikely!) or transfer to someone who might have use for it.

I saw today that Navigon Fresh was offering the 1Q2009 Map update, but when I tried to download it, it said that it could not connect to the servers.... I wonder if it was overloaded?
EDIT: Spoke to Navigon.... servers ARE inundated since this is the first day of the release.... all the European folks are downloading it like crazy.... I guess we'll have to try downloading it tonight after Europe goes to sleep.
Be aware that this is a 1.6 GB download so it will take 2-3 hours depending on your broadband speed. Make sure you have 4GB of free storage space on your hard drive before downloading.

- edited January 2009I saw that the map update was available, but I did not start the download as it is 1519.2 MB and Navigon indicates it will take between 2-4 hours to download (and tie up your computer). Also indicates you need 4 GB of hard drive space on your PC. I will go after it later tonight.
Also for the 7200t there is a firmware update v7.3.4 which is 78.82 MB and did not take too long to install, maybe 10 minutes total. Navigon indicates that it includes updated Bluetooth software which adds more phones and other bug fixes. I don't have a BT phone so I can't confirm if it works any better or not.
If you made any modifications to your ApplicationSetting.xml file they have been wiped out. Why they have not fixed the <DayNightSwitching> is beyond me.
<SunRiseDelay>0</SunRiseDelay>
<SunSetDelay>3600</SunSetDelay>
I have not compared my modified file and the new update file as yet.
EDIT: It appears that the 2GB internal flash drive has not been made operational with v7.3.4. - edited January 2009Cool, I see it but it seems their servers are busy right now.
I'm surprised these GPS companies don't use some form of Bi t t orrent to distribute the maps. It would save them tons of money on bandwidth and make the whole download process much quicker for everyone. - Is the Freshmaps update for Europe only or is it available in the U.S. also? I'll be getting my 8100T Friday and would like to be as current as possible. Maybe I missed something, but I saw this at their website:
'Please note that NAVIGON Fresh is currently available only to European customers. NAVIGON Fresh will be available to U.S. and Canada customers in July 2008. If you are a North American customers, register your device at navigonusa.com for news on availability of NAVIGON Fresh and other product and map updates.'
Maybe I went to the wrong URL....
As luck would have it, I'll be out of town Friday when the 8100T arrives via UPS. They always deliver here about 5-7 p.m.
Works fine for the US. I just downloaded the Latest map update onto my US 8100T using my US Freshmaps subscriptionIs the Freshmaps update for Europe only or is it available in the U.S. also? Perhaps a few more POIs have been added... hard to say. As far as streets go, in my area... just like the Garmin folks have said of their recent update, I can't see any changes. I just looked at some streets in my area that are new that I always check for.

You are confusing FreshMaps subscription with the application called Fresh. You should download the latest version of Fresh to your PC, run it and then you can access firmware updates and new map updates via your FreshMaps subscription.
Clear as mud, right? - The 1Q09 Map update consumes an additional 32MB of card space. I got an error message stating that there was not enough storage space available on my SD card to do the update, so I transferred everything onto an 8GB card and everything then went ok. You gotta remember that Windows makes copies first, then deletes the original. If you don't have enough space on your SD card to accommodate the new files, then the update will fail.
Alex
Yeah, I forgot to mention. as a die-hard TomTom nut, I immediately copied the entire SD card contents to an 8GB SD before I ever used my Navigon. The original SD sits safely in the box. So luckily I never came across any space issues. The 1Q09 Map update consumes an additional 32MB of card space. Thanks for clearing that up. I'll follow through on that today. Looking forward to getting the 8100T. They seem to be gaining in popularity now.You are confusing FreshMaps subscription with the application called Fresh. You should download the latest version of Fresh to your PC, run it and then you can access firmware updates and new map updates via your FreshMaps subscription.- Still getting an error through Fresh saying there is a problem with one of the files on the Navigon servers and it can't be downloaded. I tried last night and tried just now again (1200 EST). Looks like the servers are overwhelmed or crashed, and there is no option on the FreshMaps page to download directly (using the 'other OS' link) like there has been for previous updates.
:( - I am able to start a download, but it will only grab 3 - 4MB and then stops.
- Got installed last night with no problem. Took almost 2 hours though. No problem with memory using the SD card that came with unit.
I haven't seen any changes though with maps. Still has the wrong locations of stores and houses where I live.
Anyone seen any changes yet? - unfortunately, the rumors about the 2009 Q1 update adding lots of POI's is not true. i downloaded it last night for my 2100 max and the kroger and super walmart that have been near my apartment for at least 4 years still don't show up.
my guess is that we won't see huge POI changes until the next gen of navigon devices come out (kind of like the 8100). since the 8100 has 5+ million POI's, you'd think it be easy to use that database to update all of navigon's devices. i bet the POI updates are device specific and i'll continue to see only about 1.8 million with my 2100 max despite using freshmaps. - I gotta say the POIs in my 8100T are definitely on par with my previous nuvi 760 and tomotom 930t. The main POIs I use of course are airports and stuff, but occasionally I'll look something up.
Mainly though I use the Google Application on my iPhone do do my POI searches, get the address then type that in.
My ApplicationSetting.xml was not altered from what I had before, but it might be due to the fact that my software was not updated from 7.3.2. Navigon Fresh tells me that no software updates are available. If you made any modifications to your ApplicationSetting.xml file they have been wiped out. Why they have not fixed the <DayNightSwitching> is beyond me.

EDIT: It appears that the 2GB internal flash drive has not been made operational with v7.3.4.
Alex- AH HA.....you did not get any firmware update. That explains why your settings did not go back to default. I didn't think any map update alone should/would have altered applicationsettings.xml. Again, I have the 7200t and I am not sure this F/W update did good things. I am seeing a marked slowdown in processing in various areas such as bringing up the My Destinations list (mine is pretty short) and a few other places. Have not used it on a real route as yet.
- No firmware update for me also. I am still on 7.3.2 as well but the maps loaded fine.
What is strange is when I go back to Navigon Fresh with my unit plugged in it still tells me there is a map update even though I installed it already. I did confirm the new Maps are in 8100t so they were installed properly. - It will say that, but if you try to download it again, you will get a message that it has already been updated...
Alex - I just finished upgrading the firmware and maps. So far the only change I've seen with the software is there is now an option to change the state by voice using voice command (although you still have to press the tab on screen to get to it, which seems a little counter-intuitive). Noticed from the info screen that Reality View, 3D Landmarks and Zagat all are still version 1.0.0 from 2008 so none of those have been updated.
- Just got Q12009 downloaded to my 7200 and it took 2 hrs. No problems. I am seeing increased POIs. In the Shopping -> Home Improvement I am now seeing a Home Depot and several other local hardware stores that were not there before. One is definitely a mom 'n pop operation and I plan to ask them if they paid $$ to be in the database just to confirm it may not happen as much as we think it does. Stores that have logo icons like Best Buy and 7-Eleven I suspect have paid to advertise. Also seeing more shopping malls listed.
Now to go back into applicationsettings.xml and set things right again! - edited January 2009Since I have been having trouble grabing the new update to my 8100T, I decided to call Navigon this morning. At this point I am somewhat confused. I was told that the update notice had prematurely been sent out and that it would not actually be ready until Monday. I mentioned that there was word on the net of individuals that had already updated and the CS rep said they were not sure how that could be done. Anyway, I was told to try on Monday.
I just got home and again looked at the update. If my 8100T is selected I no longer see an option to download the update. I wonder if they pulled it. - i'm guessing the map updates are device specific. it's possible that the update is available for the 2100 max and others, but not for the 8100t
i updated my 8100t.i'm guessing the map updates are device specific. it's possible that the update is available for the 2100 max and others, but not for the 8100t
Although I did it by removing the SD card and connecting an sd card reader to fresh.- I have tried updating through a card reader also, but can only get 4-5MB at a time and then have to shut down Fresh, relog in, and start again. I have likely done this 20 to 30 times and am currently about 50% done. I am sure it is a very GOOD download/update
- I updated the maps for my 5100 through my laptop's card reader with no problems at all. A software update was not available. I'm using a 4 GB SDHC card. Not sure how long it took, since I started the update and left the computer alone for a couple of hours . . . it was done when I came back.
Haven't noticed any differences yet. - After reading there is a new firmware and map update I did the firmware first yest evening.
Took about 10 mins to do the firmware last night around 7pm est. After that I downloaded the new Q1 2009 maps.
The speed is a lot better than updaing my ipaq. The download speed was 255to 355kb and total time was just over 2 hous to download and install.
I did not bother to make any back and just updated the 7200T.
All seems well so far. :)
I wonder if the new firmware fixes some reboots that I have been encountering eg when I start the car and the gps is pluged in and on? At times after I start the car and access the 7200T right away it rebooted? - Couple other changes I have noticed:
1. The zoom levels are different. On 'Standard' when you are standing still the road is not nearly as wide/big as it was (from what I recall). Seems as though I can see more now than I did before without changing the settings.
2. There is a railroad crossing warning sign at every level grade crossing, which lets you know when a road crosses a railroad track at grade, versus crossing under or above.
3. Definitely more POIs, although I have no idea how many more - WOW!....just downloaded new Q1 map. Took 15 minutes...from 10:36pm to 10:51 pm fully extracted and installed by 11:07
Looks like evening is best time to download! - That is a pretty amazing DL time. What type of internet connection do you have and did you take note of your download speeds?
And not to throw a fly into the ointment, but I am a born skeptic, are you sure you have Q1 2009 maps now installed? What does your Map Display setting tell you? Map version. - edited February 2009I have Comcast DSL. Its a 6mbps connection but rarely get anywhere near that from most sites. As far as my DL speed, the interface does not show it. I used freshmaps and it just has a DL indicator bar.
As for version, my Map display says North America Version Q1 2009.
I will say it took me several tries to get connected. I kept getting an error about cannot find a file but after a few tried finally connected.
Also, is it just me or has Home Depot and the like...Home Improvement been added. Don't remember seeing it before. I'm glad as my work has me going to hardware stores a few times a week all over Houston. This will help me find the closest one....
EDIT...Im sorry, its not DSL...its cable.... - edited February 2009Did not know Comcast had DSL. Here Comcast is cable only and Verizon is our DSL vendor. I was thinking about switching to DSL. And it does seem you were successful in getting Q1 2009 maps and you did not lose 2 hours out of your life!
And, yes, there seem to be more POIs with the new maps and some new categories - as you saw, Home Improvement. I am now seeing several local hardware stores as well.
There is also a new POI map display category called Post Office, but I think Navigon screwed up the implementation.
Go to Settings -> Map Display -> Categories Shown. Scroll down several pages and there is now a category called Post Office. It seems you can set the map to display a post office POI BUT, for some reason you cannot search for a post office such as when searching for a Nearby POI or In a City.
And to add insult to injury I do not see a single post office POI in any town I look at. Way to go Navigon - you screwed it up one more time!!!!
Edit: Seems the Post Office category was there previously, but they still don't show any or allow you to find any.
Unfortunately Navigon does a terrible job of keeping the US website up to date and there is no way to report these 'bugs' as the drop down product list does not include the 7200 or 8100. I suppose you could make note of the model in the narrative field, but the product field will be incorrect and who knows what department that goes to and if it is incorrect they probably don't know what to do with it. I have no faith whatsoever in Navigon support when I see gross negligence on keeping their customers informed via the web site. It just ain't that hard to do! - I updated my 7200T Friday evening. First try was disastrous. The 7200T kept rebooting and then I was getting a hash error. It wouldn't let me do the maps until the firmware update was done.
I finally took out the sd card, did a reformat and restore and tried again. This time the firmware took no more than 10 minutes and the maps were fairly quick also. I didn't really time it but it couldn't have been more than 30 minutes.
First thing I did was check for Home Depot. The closest ones were not there but it did find one at least 100 miles away!! Other than that, I haven't noticed any changes. - One thing I noticed as I drove around today was many of the POI that was there before is not on map now. If I do a search they are there but they do not show up on map now for some reason....
I dont remember the post office before... - I agree with Spyder's comments. Navigon tech support is of little help in most cases. I have personally dealt with them at times and my wife can
't believe how upset I get. One hand doesn't know what the other is doing. I have a pet pieve about large companies maintaining tech support operations overseas with non-Americans who barely speak English. Apparently that's not the case with Navigon but the 'support' just isn't there. I look in my local Sunday papers each week at the electronics ads and I just don't see Navigon very often. All the working displays in the stores-I just don't see Navigon. I tell my friends I own a Navigon-they ask ' a what?' I suspect that the problem here is they started with a flawed piece of software, and tried to just patch and correct along the way. Easy for me to say, but I think they should have torn it down and re-built it. As I have said before, it's always something with Navigon.
Its always something with all the brands I am afraid. Right now I have a Tomtom that has been unusable for 2 1/2 months because a firmware update garbled speech. They have no eta for a fix.As I have said before, it's always something with Navigon.
I have had problems with Garmin too. They just released a map update that causes a host of display problems. I have yet to even try it for fear of ruining my Nuvi.
I find it amazing how poor a job all these companies can do at times.- edited February 2009I took my 7200t back to MN7.3.1 and maps to so called Q3 2008 and turned it on this morning and for the first time I had a new 'Attention!' screen which is basically an advertisement for FreshMaps updates. 'Updates you can trust. Get the latest map for your Navigon device every 3 months.' Then tells me where to buy it online. Or was this something that is happening because I am back to 'out of the box' default settings? Now I am inclined to think that is the case and since I suffer from CRS I just don't remember seeing that screen 2 months ago.
It's GroundHog's day all over again!
I saw the message also, despite having just upgraded my map using my freshmaps subscription 2 days earlier.I took my 7200t back to MN7.3.1 and maps to so called Q3 2009 and turned it on this morning and for the first time I had a new 'Attention!' screen which is basically an advertisement for FreshMaps updates. It's GroundHog's day all over again!- Hi,
New User here.. just bought a 2210 and the other week did the Q4 2008 map update..
I just saw this message that there is a Q1 2009 Update.. should this also apply to the 2210 as i don't get the update displaying in the Fresh application.
Thanks for your help,
Keith - I have the 2200 and have also tried to get the new Maps but there is nothing showing on Navigon Fresh for mine at the moment.
